A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words
The Albany Museum of Art presents the first annual A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words writing competition. Beginning September 25, 2015 students will select a work of art from the A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words art object list. All of the listed objects will be on display through the duration of the contest for closer inspection. One submission per person. Submissions must be no longer than 1,000 words and can contain elements from fiction or non-fiction. The essay must relate back to the art that inspired it and should be appropriate for a broad museum-going audience. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Along with the cash prize winners, four honorable mentions will be selected. The cash prizes are awarded as follows: 1st place: $250.00, 2nd place: $150.00 and 3rd place: $100.000. All winners, including the honorable mentions, will also be published in a special A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words Museum publication. The winning submissions will be announced November 19, 2015 at an award ceremony and reading.
