This year, Open Arms, Inc. in partnership with the Georgia Youth Homeless Advisory Group and the Department of Community Affairs, will coordinate and conduct the Dougherty County Homeless Youth Point-in-Time Count. The count is staffed by program staff of Open Arms, Inc. and volunteers. We will target homeless youth, between the ages of 12-24 years of age. It begins on June 24, 2019 and ends on June 29, 2019. Many youth are underrepresented in various counts because they are often hidden (e.g. friends’ homes). We However, as we work daily with youth and partners, we know this is an alarmingly high number of homeless youth in our community that are resorting to criminal means and survival sex as a way to provide for their basic needs. Our aim is to solve this problem by verifying that this problem does exist, and we will do this by gathering this quantifiable data. This data will be submitted on a statewide level to ensure that federal dollars are available to help youth in OUR community. We believe that if we work on this problem now, it will save thousands of youth and dollars in the future. We are soliciting volunteers to help with this count. There will be various sites and schedules available. Any time commitment is greatly appreciated. If you are available or know of someone that can help, please do not hesitate to contact us at 229-431-1121. Thank you!
