Nature of Work: This is an accounting position whose primary function is management of University payroll processes.  
Training and Experience: INTERNAL CANDIDATES WHO MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. 

*Bachelor's degree in a business field required; preferably accounting. 
*Five years' experience in payroll, preferably in the Higher Education environment. 
*Knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to payroll, including but not limited to University System of Georgia policies and procedures, ASU policies and procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, GASB standards, IRS regulations, and NACUBO principles. 
*Intermediate knowledge of and ability in Microsoft Excel. 
*Skill in decision making and problem solving. 
*Skill in interpersonal relations. 
*Skill in good oral and written communications.  
Testing Requirements:  
Illustrative Examples of Work: *Manages the processing of bi-weekly and monthly payrolls. 
*Manages the maintenance of payroll records. 
*Assigns, supervises, and evaluates work of Payroll Specialist. 
*Works closely with Controller and other University employees in performing successful and timely monthly and annual financial close outs. 
*Provides training and guidance to ASU faculty and staff on USG and ASU payroll polices and procedures on regular and as-needed bases. 
*Continually assesses payroll procedures to ensure they are as effective and efficient as possible, and recommends potential improvements to the Controller. 
*Researches and corrects payroll discrepancies. 
*Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands Work is typically performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or table while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
