Journey is pleased to announce we are the only local provider using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) as part of our ongoing psychological assessment services for the Southwest Georgia area. The ADOS-2 is considered the ''gold standard'' of assessments used to clarify a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD, formerly also included Pervasive Developmental Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome). The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured assessment of social interaction, communication, play, and imaginative use of materials for individuals who may qualify for a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The assessment completes this goal by providing unique standardized tasks to elicit behaviors relevant to an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Although the assessment alone does not provide a clinical diagnosis, it is a very valuable tool to be used in conjunction with developmental history, observation, parent/guardian report, and collateral information (including measures of intellectual functioning, a continuous performance test, visual motor development, and academic abilities when appropriate). This assessment can be used with children as young as 12 months (with appropriate nonverbal abilities) through adults.
