DESCRIPTION:Thronateeska Presents A Tale of Two Stars Saturday\, September 19\, 2015 Albany\, Georgia Visitors get to explore space with a hands-on Science Saturday and the third Wetherbee Astronomy Series installment of 2015. This star themed programs will be held Saturday\, September 19\, 2015 in the Science Museum\, at Thronateeska Heritage Center. Science Saturday will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the Wetherbee Astronomy Series kicks off at 2:00 p.m. At Science Saturday visitors will get hands-on as they discover how scientists learn about the composition of interstellar dust through a mock stardust identification activity. This event is open to children of all ages but adult supervision is required. Prior registration is strongly encouraged as space is limited. Call Programs Manager\, Alex La Pierre\, at (229) 432-6955 to register. The Wetherbee Astronomy Series begins with a presentation about stars and includes a screening of the full dome show\, Astronomyths. It will be held in the Wetherbee Planetarium allowing visitors to explore the cosmos in air conditioned comfort with Staff Astronomer\, Jim Friese. "In this event we will learn where stars come from and how they are made\, because it is important for people to know how impactful stars are in our lives" said Friese. This third installment and the final installment of the Wetherbee Astronomy Series will include a viewing of a fulldome show and build upon the previous screenings\, allowing visitors to explore the universe in the Wetherbee Planetarium. Upcoming Wetherbee Astronomy Series segments: Saturday\, November 21\, 2 p.m.- "Island Universes" + telescope purchasing workshop Admission to each event is $3.50 plus tax per person. Thronateeska members are admitted at no charge to both events. Program content is suitable for all ages. Thronateeska Heritage Center is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization located at 100 West Roosevelt Avenue\, Albany\, Georgia. Facilities include the History Museum\, Wetherbee Planetarium\, Science Museum\, Transportation Museum and Archives.
